Excerpts from the Soon-To-Be-Published Unauthorized Biography: “Death Was His Only Release”
For many of those closest to him, the untimely death of bodybuilding great Steve Michalik came as no surprise. Known for his brutal, self-styled ‘intensity or insanity’ workouts where he would routinely grind those who thought they could match him rep-for-rep into the floor until they could no longer handle the pain and were forced to submit, Michalik thrived on his tough guy image and used it to cultivate and aura of invincibility that positioned him as one to be respected, and feared. Ironically, for the man who, on May 24, 2012, took his own life, his early evolution as an aspiring bodybuilding contender could be, in his words, summarized by the statement: “I was willing to win the Mr. American title or die trying and either option was perfectly acceptable to me.”
